If you're running a carb, you just need the right MSD box to fire the motor. No harness needed. There is a rear mounted (Ford) distributor setup also available for those who don't want to mess with a laptop to setup the MSD.  Keeping the fuel injection system will require a stand alone harness and a pcm reprogram if you're modifying the motor. There's also the new fuel pump and high pressure line(s) to add into your budget for using fuel injection. Remember not to spin it too tight with stock rod bolts. They don't last above 6,500 (boom!)

Willy,
I'm replacing my red GMC pickup with an extended cab 2002 S10. It's primary job is to get the Suzdamatic to the track to race. The S10 is not a race truck! The truck will have tubular upper and lower A arms, QA-1 shocks, Camaro 12" front rotors, 12.7 to 1 power steering box, leather 2000 Trans-Am bucket seats, 8.8 posi rear with 3.73's and rear disc brakes, lowered 3" front and rear, with 16" Camaro  iroc rims and rubber. The motor is an all aluminum Chevy 5.3 with ported intake, torque cam, and full length headers. With a mail order ecu tune, I'm looking for around 310 horses at the rear wheels and 25 mpg on the highway. That's why I'm building this thing up, to get gas mileage that my current truck can only dream of...
Everybody seems surprised at the thought that I'd  might run 4 wheels at Winterport? If there is someone with a long memory at Winterport, I've run the GMC there in the past! You had a street legal, dial your own quick 32 that I ran in as the 31st qualifier. Made semifinals, losing to a quick mopar. The truck was Street Eliminator champion at Oxford one season. My drag racing started at Oxford in '71 with 4 wheels. It was '84 before I ran 2 wheels. I got into bike racing in the 80's because the 2 wheel bracket racing was easier than the 4 wheel racing that I had been doing. Purses were about the same back then. Now you can't find much for special events with bigger purses for motorcycles in this state. (that allow me to race an automatic motorcycle)
So, I've added Cal-Tracs and a Yank truck 3000 converter to the S10. Maybe, someday....
